Research shows that teen girls are not as likely to be as abusive as teen boys.

Teen boys are far more likely to initiate violence and teen girls are more likely to be violent in a case of self-defense.

Teen dating violence can be very dangerous - sometimes lethal.

Dating violence is violence that occurs within a dating relationship rather than, say, marriage; and dating violence is as much a problem for teenagers as it is for adults.

Violence is defined by the World Health Organization as "the intentional use of physical force or power, threatened or actual, against oneself, another person, or against a group or community, which either results in or has a high likelihood of resulting in injury, death, psychological harm, maldevelopment, or deprivation", although the group acknowledges that the inclusion of "the use of power" in its definition expands on the conventional understanding of the word.

This definition involves intentionality with the committing of the act itself, irrespective of the outcome it produces.

Dating and domestic violence occurs in all relationships, young and old, married and unmarried, all economic backgrounds, heterosexual and same-sex. Even though violence against women is the most common, men are also abused – especially verbally and emotionally.

Remember, no matter whom the abuse comes from, man or woman, parent or partner, older adult or teenager it is never okay and you never deserve it.
